Ground Zero Museum Committee Announced at Chapel

April 8, 2004. St. Paul’s was honored to be chosen as the site of today’s announcement of the formation of the Advisory Committee for the Memorial Center, a proposed museum at Ground Zero which will preserve the history of the World Trade Center and house a collection of artifacts from both the 1993 and 2001 attacks on the towers.

John C. Whitehead, chairman of the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation - which is charged with the oversight of the project –was quick note to the local and national press who gathered at the Chapel that the 24-member committee will include two survivors of 9-11; five family members of victims from both the ’93 and ’01 attacks; as well as representatives from the Police and Fire Departments. Also on the team will be historian Kenneth T. Jackson, documentary filmmaker Ric Burns and Robert B. Tierney, the chairman of the Landmarks Preservation Commission.

Of the many daunting tasks the committee will face, it is likely none will prove more difficult than making the heart-wrenching and emotionally charged decisions about what structural remnants and artifacts will be included in the new museum’s permanent collection. Our prayers and best wishes go out to them all.
