Parish Announces Matching Grant of $100,000 for Tsunami Recovery and Rebuilding

The Vestry of the Parish of Trinity Church-St. Paul's Chapel has awarded a $100,000 matching grant to aid long-term tsunami recovery in South Asia. In the letter below, the Rev. James H. Cooper, rector of Trinity Church, explains the grant and suggests how you can contribute funds to be matched by the parish, dollar for dollar. As part of the parish community, website visitors, regular or otherwise, are warmly invited to contribute.

Dear Parish Community,

I am pleased to announce that last night the Vestry approved a matching grant of $100,000 for a community-rebuilding project in Southern Thailand.

From now through Ash Wednesday, February 9, Trinity will match every dollar contributed by you and other members of the parish community, up to $100,000. The funds we raise will go toward a long-term plan for infrastructure redevelopment in the areas hardest hit in Thailand.

This relief project is being organized by Episcopal Relief and Development in conjunction with Christ Church Bangkok and Anglican leaders in Thailand. Our gift will go beyond the important emergency funds collected since the disaster struck, seeking to provide more permanent food-and-shelter solutions for those affected.

If you are interested in donating money, checks should be made out to Trinity Church, with the notation “For Tsunami Relief,” and sent to:

Trinity Church
74 Trinity Place, 3rd Floor
New York, NY 10006
Attn: Janine McHale

In sanctioning the use of these funds, the Vestry has made it clear that they hope this gift will be given in its full abundance (the entire $200,000). I invite your participation in helping us reach that goal. Together, our compassionate response has the power to touch people’s lives in tangible ways.

Faithfully,

Jim
