Trinity-St. Paul’s will commemorate the fourth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, with an interfaith service at St. Paul’s Chapel and the dedication of a bronze root sculpture by artist Steve Tobin at Trinity Church.
Tobin has created a memorial sculpture of the roots of the sycamore tree that shielded St. Paul’s Chapel from damage on 9/11.
The commemorative events will begin at 8:46 am, when the Rev. Dr. James H. Cooper will ring the Bell of Hope in the churchyard of St. Paul’s.
The day will continue with a special Eucharist at 9:30 am that will formally dedicate the chapel as a member of the Community of the Cross of Nails (CCN), designating it as a center for promoting peace and reconciliation.
The preacher for the 9:30 am service will be the Rev. Dr. Oliver Schuegraf, co-ordinator of the Community of the Cross of Nails at Coventry Cathedral.
At 1 pm, St. Paul’s will host an Interfaith Memorial Service and anointing with oil, followed by a procession to Trinity Church for the dedication of the memorial sycamore root sculpture at 2 pm.
The Eucharist will be celebrated at 8 am (St. Paul’s) and 9 and 11:15 am (Trinity). Dr. Schuegraf will also preach at the 11:15 service.
