To say that our hearts go out to the Virginia Tech community at this time of calamity understates the depth of our feeling. We who live and work in Lower Manhattan know only too well the disorientation, fear, anger and grief that accompany the days after.
We also know from personal experience the power of love to heal, the gift of faith to sustain, and the grace of prayer to support.
We commend one of the prayers often used in our recovery efforts here. It ends with the phrase, "Lift us, O God, to your presence where we can be still and know that you are God, that you are closer to us than the breath we breathe, and that you are always doing for us and for those we love far better things than we can ever desire or pray for."
