The mayor joined the Right Rev. Herbert A. Donovan, vicar of Trinity and St. Paul's, and the Rev. Milton C. Williams Jr. for the observance, on the front porch of the chapel overlooking the World Trade Center site.
As the bells of St. Paul's were tolled at 7.39 am (EST) in memory of the 201 people killed, Father Williams read verses 1-8 of Psalm 46.
Mayor Bloomberg called March 17 for the tolling of church bells throughout the five boroughs of New York City. He also visited with Spanish Consul General Juan Manuel Egea Ibanez to deliver condolences to the citizens of Madrid.
